This morning I came here before I went to twitter. This seems to be the place to be right now. Still not sure of all the groupings, taggings, etc. Reading what everyone writes and hoping to get it soon. Will play on Sunday with Karen McMillan and Alice Barr. Anyone else want to join? Anyone want to teach? (hee hee)

That's so funny. I came her first too. I think it's because the Diigo toolbar says how many messages you have and it caught my attention. Usually I ready e-mail and then go to Twitter, but when I launch my browser, this is where I went instead.

I'd like to join in on Sunday. The ealier the better for me. I think I may be presenting Diigo on 4/18 as I was going to present 20 minutes on Del.icio.us, but I may show Diigo instead - or both - or 20 minutes is not enough....

It suckered me in, too Lisa. I've been a Diigo user for a while, mainly for its annotating capability, but the cross-linking to del.icio.us wasn't always consistent. This new version "appears" to have fixed that issue, plus I've been impressed with the new features.

I'm second guessing teaching only del.icio.us myself, too. I just did a small presentation to a group on del.icio.us before this new diigo update came out. That lasted 45 minutes easily. The loved it, but I'm going to have to go back and show them Diigo now. It's like the icing on the del.icio.us cake.

I'm wondering if Diigo is too much for the newbie. Delicious is so simple and obviously useful. I'm afraid Diigo would scare some people away. I'm still inclined to start with delicious and save Diigo for my more advanced users (of which I have very few).

I never had a delisious account (that I used anyway). I am starting from scratch with Diigo, I don't find it confusing, but I am active on a lot of other networks. I am still learning. So far it seems like a mashup of twitter, facebook, delicious, and email with bookmarks and post its thrown in. Maybe overwhelming would describe my feelings.

You make a great point, Liz. I think that perhaps if you haven't used any form of social bookmarking at all as Greg Noak pointed out in his response, that it might be okay to begin with Diigo. However, I can definitely think of quite a few people who would balk at it, too and favor the simplicity of Del.icio.us.

Where we try to take advantage of the 'social' aspect of these tools, most of my teachers wouldn't do that. They would use either as an upgrade from traditional bookmarks/favorites, but most likely wouldn't participate in the social/sharing aspects they offer.

The nice thing about the Diigo toolbar is that you can select which buttons to see, so for those who might find the extra choices of tools overwhelming, it can at least be customized.

I've been thinking about that all monring Liz. I've got a short amount of time with a large number of techies. But it might be a good time to talk about Delicious and then office to come back in June and talk about Diigo. I can even give them the link to your Screencast as I close the presentation as a little candy.

Since you've never used del.icio.us, I would be interested in hearing more of your feedback regarding Diigo. When I look at all of the resources I have already mined this morning from the bookmarks saved by my new network here it can be overwhelming.

Hi Lisa...wow, did you start a good conversation! I'm with you, I'm feeling a Diigo obsession building. As soon as Explorer comes up I check to see if there are any messages in Diigo. How nice of them to put that number right on my toolbar!

I created my very first List last night, so I was feeling pretty proud of myself! It's not perfect (I know at least one link needs to be redone), but it's a start! Looking forward to Sunday!

Now I'm off to check Twitter......then email.....sheesh, what a geek I've turned into!

Liz I think it may be too much initially for the newbie and I will continue to send to delicious. There is one feature that I REALLY like and that is that you can EMAIL something you are tagging so for folks who LIKE to get those sites emailed, you can still meet their needs without an extra step yourself. I think this is really going to bring folks that I have not been convinced to try social ookmarking themselves IN..if they keep getting emails from diigo...they might have an interest in finding out what it is all about

The value of Diigo is that it brings a number of tools together allowing for multiple entry points. The old training model is show them a tool from start to finish that goes over every single detail. With Diigo, why show everything to those new to all this? It is rather easy to click into your bookmarks. From there, teachers have a space they can grow. It also provides a wonderful opportunity to differentiate with your teachers -- the whole multiple points of entry.

I guess the questions are about what your teachers are looking for and what you are hoping to stretch them to in the future. If it is social bookmarking plain and simple, there is nothing wrong with that and delicious is clearly the best choice.

For me, it is the ease of integration with blogging and twitter -- I annotated a page yesterday and pulled it directly into my blog. I can twitter bookmark that is important quickly -- AND I can use the tagging standards for the horizon project without having to remember the darn tags -- tag dictionaries are the most useful things to have been invented in a LONG time -- we need to set them up within one of our educational groups!

I never really used delicious to its full potential. The fact that I am here just chatting with folks makes me want to stay and contribute to the collective knowledge.

Howdy! Wow, what can I say? Diigo is a lot more than delicious. If CoolCat Vicki hadn't written about Diigo again, I probably would have stuck with Delicious...and,if I hadn't been using Twitter, blogs, played around with Facebook, the social networking side of Diigo would have been just so much MORE to learn.

I'm tempted to make a concept map at all the tools that Diigo interacts with--blogs, twitter, highlighting, email--that delicious doesn't connect with.

While I agree with so many of comments here, my concern would be to NOT limit learners in workshop sessions to the path I followed in learning these tools. Simply, folks, here is a tool that will grow as you grow and learn more about living and contributing in an interconnected world. The ability to have conversations like this, to annotate web pages, to share relevant quotes and tweet as needed...makes me wonder at the need for blogs at all.

Thank you Lisa Parisi for starting the conversation.

I am fairly new to fb, twitter, del.icio.us, ff and all this last six months and seem to be getting on with them. Anyway I have reading about diigo on twitter recently -- then looked this excellent conversation this morning on Diigo about Diigo but Diigo after Vicki Davis tweeted it -- but Diigo wasn't letting me in and wouldn't tell me why :-(... Thanks Vicki for the help with Diigo protocols.

Having said that I am thinking it is probably worth it -- I am meant to be learning about e-pedagogy after all.

I am not sure if I (in the UK) will be about at the right times tomorrow (church in the morning and my boys perform in a concert in the afternoon) but I hope to stay in touch -- or catch up after as best able.

Just a thought, how long until friendfeed adds diigo as a service?

    Liz and Caroline -

To start using Diigo - one doesn't have to be overwhelmed and master everything at once.

We have designed our toolbar with a "beginner" vs. "advanced" mode. And yes, you can also customize it anyway you wish.

One can start with some simple bookmarking function first, then move onto highlighting. In that regard, that's already much, much better than bookmarking alone. All other features can be gradually explored - one at a time, or only as needed basis.

There are a lot of reasons why Diigo is packed with features - for one, having an integrated suit of features allow many incredible flexibility and possibilities. Still, together we can explore having an dedicated education version of Diigo to suite the students and teachers' needs better.

We are implementing a new way of importing delicious (export to browser first then re-import) - it's already in testing and will be released to public very shortly - probably later today or tomorrow. Please stay tuned.

Also, everyone, please notice, this DMS system is a tiered system, so that each message has a thread #, so that you can reply specifically to a particular person/message. clicking the # link, you can also jump to that message easily.

I have been using diigo for about 72 hours and have found it relatively easy to use since I am used to navigating. And yes, the toolbar does make it hard to stay away from the site. However, I did show diigo to another teacher and they were a little overwhelmed with it!

I would like to join in on Sunday if I am able to. I am getting ready to take students to the FBLA State Competition and we are leaving tomorrow so I will probably have to leave a little early. Please share the link.
